Document Description
Caltrans proposes a Director’s Order (DO) to install Level 3 EV chargers at five (5) maintenance stations in San Diego County. The maintenance stations include Escondido (#5710), Camino del Rio (#5702), Imperial (#5807), Otay (#5806), and Pacific Highway (#5801). This work includes purchasing Level 3 chargers, trenching new conduits, pouring EV charger foundations, installing safety bollards and applicable signage, and running power from the electrical switchgear to the Level 3 chargers. Trenches will be standard 30” depth by 12” to 18” wide. Although trenches are 30” deep, if they rock wheel it, it’s going to be 6” wide and 30” deep. Footings are 22.2” in width x 34.6” in length x 24” in depth. It’s anticipated there will be minimal ground disturbance by trenching from switchgear to chargers, and the length varies per location. The electrical SDG&E power connection path outside of Caltrans right-of-way (ROW) is for reference only and not included in this project. All work completed on this contract is within the State ROW. The electrical paths extending outside of ROW were performed by SDG&E in accordance with their encroachment permits for this project. Per the DO, the working days have been updated from 30 days to 120 days. All work will occur within State right-of-way.

Project consists of the repair, maintenance, of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. Specifically, Caltrans will stall Level 3 EV chargers at five (5) maintenance stations in San Diego County. This work includes purchasing Level 3 chargers, trenching new conduits, pouring EV charger foundations, installing safety bollards and applicable signage, and running power from the electrical switchgear to the Level 3 chargers.
