Document Description
To install a stream gage, a conduit, and an acoustic doppler flow measurement device. The stream gage will be a steel remote terminal unit that consists of a data logger, a bubbler unit, a battery, a solar panel, and satellite radio telemetry equipment. The stream gage will be mounted to the bridge deck. Approximately 100 feet of one-inch rigid metal conduit will be routed along the bridge deck, down a bridge column, and will terminate at an acoustic doppler velocimeter strapped near the bottom of the column. A fiberglass staff gage will be strapped to a nearby bridge column.

The proposed project is located at the existing Nelson Road bridge over Butte Creek approximately 7 miles southwest of the city of Durham, in Butte County (39°33'05.7"N, 121°50'30.7"W).

Reasons for Exemption
The project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 4, Minor Alterations to Land categorical exemption (California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15304), because the activity consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes. In addition, the project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 6, Information Collection categorical exemption (California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15306), because the activity consists of basic data collection, research, experimental management, and resource evaluation activities which do not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource. These may be strictly for information gathering purposes, or as part of a study leading to an action which a public agency has not yet approved, adopted, or funded. Further, none of the exceptions to the exemption in California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15300.2 apply.
