Document Description
The California Tahoe Conservancy proposes to conserve, restore, protect, or enhance approximately 132 acres of floodplain, meadow, and upland habitat, as well as approximately 4,500 feet of river channel, to assist in the recovery of California native fish and wildlife, and the habitat upon which they depend. The Project is designed to restore geomorphic processes and hydrologic functions, improve water quality, enhance native vegetation community conditions, improve aquatic and terrestrial habitats, and increase the Project area’s resiliency to climate change.

Reasons for Exemption
This Project is designed to restore habitat for California native fish and wildlife in the Upper Truckee River, and on the adjacent floodplain and upland. Public Resources Code §21080.56 allows for projects that restore habitat for native fish and wildlife and comply with all other requirements of §21080.56 to be exempt from California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements. The Conservancy Executive Director determined on December 16, 2025, that the Project is exempt from CEQA under PRC §21080.56. This determination was submitted to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) for review on December 17, 2025, and the Conservancy received the CDFW concurrence letter on February 2, 2026. The CDFW posted Concurrence NO. 21080.56-086-R2 in accordance with PRC §21080.56(g).
