Document Description
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) plans to remove an existing fire hydrant (F-30586) located at 12100 Santa Monica Boulevard, at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and South Bundy Drive in Los Angeles, CA, within California State Route 2 under Caltrans Encroachment Permit No. 0725NUS2928. The replacement fire hydrant has already been installed within the City of Los Angeles boundary. The scope of work includes excavation of the roadway from the water main to the fire hydrant, which will involve saw cutting the pavement to access and disconnect the water service, followed by removal of the fire hydrant. All backfill and resurfacing activities will be performed in accordance with Caltrans requirements.

In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), this project is Categorically Exempt from CEQA review pursuant to Sections 15301 and15302. Section 15301 consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public facilities involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that previously existing. Section 15302 consists of the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities involving negligible or no expansion of capacity. The proposed removal of an existing fire hydrant at 12100 Santa Monica Boulevard qualifies under these exemptions as it involves the minor alteration and removal of an existing utility facility with no expansion of capacity.
