Reasons for Exemption
The project involves minor alterations to an existing beach stabilization project to bury the existing superstack sandbags, thereby stabilizing the shoreline and reducing erosion and sediment mobilization into Lake Tahoe. The proposed project is Categorically Exempt from CEQA under Section 15307, Class 7, which consists of actions taken to maintain, restore, or enhance a natural resource and Section 15304 Class 4, which consists of minor alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which does not involve the removal of mature trees. The sand placement will stabilize the shoreline at El Dorado Beach and prevent further erosion, as well as the prevent or reduce the discharge of sediment and microplastics resulting from the exposure and degradation of super sack sandbags, thereby protecting water quality in Lake Tahoe.
