Document Description
The proposed project would involve the repair of a sump pit in the Port Administration Building in the city of San Diego, California. The purpose of the proposed project is to repair the existing sump pit which is experiencing continuous and unexplained water or groundwater infiltration. Work to specifically complete the proposed project would involve site investigation, subsurface boring and geotechnical analysis to identify the root cause of water infiltration into the sump pit; exploratory investigation; repair or remediation of the identified infiltration source; and restoration of the sump pit and surrounding area to a fully operational condition, with ongoing maintenance as needed. Construction of the proposed project is anticipated to occur in approximately Spring 2026, and would take approximately three (3) months to complete with ongoing maintenance as needed.

The proposed project is determined to be Categorically Exempt pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines Sections 15301 (Existing Facilities), 15302 (Replacement or Reconstruction), and 15304 (Minor Alterations to Land) because it is the repair of utility infrastructure that would involve no expansion of use beyond that previously existing and would not result in a significant cumulative impact due to the continuation of the existing use, would consist of the reconstruction of an existing structure, would be located on the same site as the structure replaced, and would have substantially the same purpose and capacity and would result in no permanent effects on the environment, and would not involve the removal of mature, scenic trees.
