Document Description
The Proposed Action entails: (1) the installation of static wireless charging infrastructure at five locations: (a) Weyburn Avenue near the intersection of Weyburn Terrace; (b) Kinross Avenue between Veteran Avenue and Weyburn Place; (c) UCLA Gateway Plaza, located on campus at 425 Westwood Plaza; (d) the UCLA Transit Operations and Maintenance Yard, located on campus at 11075 Kinross Avenue; and (e) a separately proposed UCLA-owned transit hub adjacent to the future Metro D Line Westwood/UCLA Station (under construction), located on campus at 11020 Kinross Avenue; and (2) the installation of dynamic wireless charging infrastructure along Westwood Plaza between the Charles E. Young Drive South and Le Conte Avenue intersections (i.e., the Medical Campus Corridor); and along Charles E. Young Drive South between the Westwood Plaza and Wyton Drive intersections. The dynamic charging sites would include a total of four dynamic management units (DMUs) installed in each roadway segment, each of which requires grid connectivity and the installation of coils and charging plates beneath the surface of the street.

The Proposed Action is categorically exempt under Article 19, Section 15301, Class 1, Existing Facilities, because it consists of the installation of static and dynamic wireless charging infrastructure in existing roadways; and Section 15311, Class 11, Accessory Structures, because the wireless chargers involve the construction of minor facilities appurtenant to existing transit facilities and operations at UCLA. On a separate and independent basis, the trenching for conduit related to the Proposed Action is exempt pursuant to Section 15304, Class 4, Minor Alterations to Land, because trenching activities would be minor and the surface would be restored to its original condition following completion.
