Document Description
The Ross Valley Sanitary District (RVSD) Fairfax Capacity and Creek Crossings Project #957 (Project) entails the construction and rehabilitation, within the existing alignment, of sanitary sewer mains, manholes, and related appurtenances within unincorporated Marin County and the Town of Fairfax within the County of Marin. The primary goals of this project are to provide adequate capacity to convey wet weather flows preventing sewer overflows and replace aging RVSD infrastructure and reduce inflow and infiltration into the system. The Project would rehabilitate approximately 3,300 linear feet (LF) of 6-inch sanitary sewers with new polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe via open-cut removal and replacement (988 LF), pipe bursting (2,200 LF), guided jack and bore (140 LF), and aerial crossing (96 LF). Existing private sewer laterals would be reconnected to the sanitary sewers and rehabilitated as necessary. The Project would also increase wet weather capacity by upsizing approximately 400 LF of 15-inch gravity sewer to 18-inch gravity sewer and installing approximately 2,000 LF of new 18-inch gravity main as a relief sewer throughout downtown Fairfax along Broadway and Merwin Avenue. The Project would cross Fairfax Creek at four intersections. All work crossing Fairfax Creek would involve trenchless methods such as guided jack and bore and horizontal directional drilling. Two of the Creek Crossings are above ground and would not require excavation.
The Project site encompasses approximately 0.3 acres and the total area disturbed would be approximately 13,300 square ft. Construction is expected to begin in June 2026 and is anticipated to be completed in November 2026. Work hours will generally be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
