Document Description
This project will conduct a prescribed burn in the approximately 180-acre Vernal Pool Management Areas within Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area. Vegetation is primarily medusa-head grass and the associated buildup of flammable thatch. This project will reduce Medusa-head seed viability and plant cover which is beneficial to the health of the vernal pool landscapes. Work will use water tenders, Type 3 fire engines, Type 6 fire engines, hand tools, mowers and/or string trimmers, drip torches, and dozers.

Project consists of the operation, or minor alteration of existing public or private structure, facilities, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels, and minor public or private alterations in the condition of land and vegetation which do not involve the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees and is included as “prescribed burns to restore native vegetation, reduce fuel loads, and control invasive exotic or alien species” and “resource management projects” in the Department of Parks and Recreation’s list of exempt activities, in accordance with CCR §15300.4.
