Document Description
Caltrans proposed to remove existing MBGR on N/B PCH, replace it with an extended section of MGS, and add shoulder rumble strip for buffered class II bicycle lane within PM 29,0/29.3 in City of Huntington Beach in Orange County. No trench will be needed for this project. The contractor will remove the wood post and install the new post using jack hammer (6’ post for this project). The project has an estimated construction cost of $385,000. The proactive safety performance measure is 0.099 annual fatal+serious injury collisions reduced, and 1.40 total fatal+serious injury collisions reduced over the life of the project. Life is calculated as 10 years for the Rumble Strip, and 20 years for the MGS.

Class 1 consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. The types of "existing facilities" itemized below are not intended to be all-inclusive of the types of projects which might fall within Class 1. The key consideration is whether the project involves negligible or no expansion of use. (c) Existing highways and streets, sidewalks, gutters, bicycle and pedestrian trails, and similar facilities (this includes road grading for the purpose of public safety, and other alterations such as the addition of bicycle facilities, including but not limited to bicycle parking, bicycle-share facilities and bicycle lanes, transit improvements such as bus lanes, pedestrian crossings, street trees, and other similar alterations that do not create additional automobile lanes).
