Document Description
The purpose of this project is to preserve and extend the service life of the existing pavement and facilities on State Route 1 (SR-1) in Monterey County, CA. Deteriorating pavement conditions within the project limits requires pavement rehabilitation to maintain road integrity and driver safety. Additionally, guardrail and median thrie-beam barrier within the project limits will be upgraded to meet the current Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) standards. One overhead sign structure and 16 sign panels are in poor condition, requiring replacement to enhance roadside safety. Gore areas that have been identified as showing signs of deterioration will be re-paved. The project proposes to use polyurethane injections at one location to improve sub-surface conditions and stabilize a deteriorating embankment.
The pavement rehabilitation project will overlay the existing pavement and will not alter existing roadway geometric features. Construction activities will occur within State Right of Way (ROW), primarily limited to the roadway matrix, center median, and previously disturbed areas. Night work is anticipated due to the potential traffic impacts of lane closures during the daytime. Vegetation trimming and/or tree removal are not anticipated. Temporary traffic control can be utilized during drilling/injection operations, allowing both lanes to be reopened after each shift to accommodate the traffic demand in this busy area.
