Document Description
CAL FIRE is providing funding to the North Fork Mono Tribe to implement tribal wildfire resilience treatment activities on up to 10 acres within the Sierra National Forest in Madera County to manage their ancestral lands using Tribal land management practices. Treatments include cultural burning, manual thinning, and forest meadow restoration activities, including invasive species removal. These treatments will enhance biodiversity and improve hydrology, climate, and wildfire resilience and aim to serve California Native American Tribes and advance forest health and cultural use of fire.

CEQA does not apply to fuel reduction, reforestation, & habitat restoration projects undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the NEPA, if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed under the Sequoia and Sierra National Forests Prescribed Fire Project NEPA EA and DN-FONSI, signed October 20, 2025.
