Reasons for Exemption
The Project Is categorically exempt from the provisions of CEQA under CEQA Guidelines section 15301 (c) ("Existing Facilities") and 15311 (a) ("Accessory Structures") on the basis that CEQA Guidelines section 15301 (c) exempts the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting; leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. This includes existing highways and streets, sidewalks, gutters, bicycle and pedestrian trails, and similar facilities. The Project Involves the naming of an existing alley located in an urbanized area, with no expansion of use and no Impact to sensitive environmental resources. Additionally, CEQA Guidelines section 15311(a) exempts the construction or placement of minor structures accessory to (appurtenant to) existing, commercial, or Institutional facilities, including, but not limited to on-premises signs. The Project includes the Installation of a street sign Identifying the named alley. The site is located in an urban area and does not contain any sensitive environmental resources. No significant environmental impacts would occur as a result of the project. The site is not included on any list compiled pursuant to Government Code Section 65962.5 for hazardous waste sites.
