Document Description
Zone 7 Water Agency has nine high-capacity municipal water supply wells in the Livermore Valley that serve to meet local customer water demands. As is the case with most mechanical equipment, repair or replacement of certain components is needed periodically. Further, the wells may require expedited repair in the event of a significant disruption of water production. Zone 7 intends to initiate an on-call maintenance service to aid in the timely repair of these facilities as needed.
Maintenance work typically involves the removal/replacement of well pumps, pump columns, and mechanical equipment. Work sequence typically involves removal of down-hole equipment, repair/replacement of mechanical parts, video-logging, installation of new equipment, and re-installation of all existing parts to return the well to service. For each project, it is anticipated that 1-2 trucks trips will be required for transporting removed and new equipment, with a crane used for the removal and replacement of equipment and parts. Work would not require altering traffic flow. Work duration would typically not exceed 30 days.
All work, including staging of equipment, will be confined to Zone 7’s existing well sites. Surrounding land uses for all nine locations include major thoroughfare, and industrial/commercial/offices uses. Well sites are in areas that are paved or that have a gravel bed surrounding the well/pump. Vegetation is sparse in these areas, and no vegetation would be impacted by these routine mechanical repairs. No environmental impacts are anticipated associated with this work. In the unlikely event that maintenance work would trigger a significant environmental impact, additional precautions would be taken and/or this exemption may not be considered valid.
Work under this project may include up to 5 repairs over approximately 3 years, from 2026 to 2029.
