Document Description
CAL FIRE is providing funding to the National Forest Foundation to implement mechanical and manual treatment activities, including prescribed burning (pile and broadcast), hand thinning, mastication, and ground-based mechanical thinning. These activities are intended to improve and restore forest health and resilience, reduce the risk of resource-damaging wildfire, protect and secure water supplies, and protect communities from the effects of high-severity wildfire and climate change in the North Yuba River watershed within the Yuba River Ranger District of the Tahoe National Forest.

Reasons for Exemption
CEQA does not apply to fuel reduction, reforestation, & habitat restoration projects undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the NEPA, if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed in its entirety under the April 2023 North Yuba Landscape Resilience Project NEPA Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), July 2023 Errata to the FEIS, and the Project Record of Decision (ROD), signed July 12. 2023. NEPA coverage for the North Yuba Landscape Resilience Project is 210,000 acres, with initial treatments at 1,128 acres.
