Present Land Use
The linear trail alignment would be largely within existing public right-of-way, which does not have a land use or zoning designation. The project site is surrounded by a variety of land uses, including public facilities (i.e., schools), residential development, commercial uses, and undeveloped open space. The northernmost portion of the project site is adjacent to the Fairfield-Vacaville Hannigan Train Station within the Train Station Specific Plan area. There are three schools within the vicinity of the project site, including Center Elementary School, Golden West Middle School, and Vanden High School. In addition, a portion of the project site is on federal land associated with Travis Air Force Base.
Document Description
The City proposes to construct a mixture of Class I, Class III and Class IV trails connecting the Fairfield-Vacaville Hannigan Train Station with three schools and Travis Air Force Base. The path of the new trail encompasses the Train Station South Portal to the Markeley Lane-Viking Lane intersection (Class I temporary trail), Markeley Lane (Class IV), De Ronde Drive (Class IV), intersects Forbes Street, parallels the storm drain channel (Class I), Air Base Parkway (Class I) and Parker Road (Class III). Proposed improvements would include lighting, camera system, wayfinding signage, storm water low-impact development (LID), and potentially seating areas if funding allows. The project would not require future construction to fully utilize design capabilities.
