Document Description
The purpose of the geotechnical investigation project is to develop design recommendations for the alternatives being developed for the rehabilitation or repair of Fernbridge (Eel River Bridge No. 04 0134) in Humboldt County on State Route 211. The project is needed to gather data on bedrock depth, soil characteristics, and other geologic factors that would need to be incorporated into future project planning and design. A total of 7 borings is proposed in this geotechnical drilling project, with 2 boring holes (RC-26-002 and RC-26-003) on the riverbed of Eel River. Work would be conducted outside of the wetted channel on the gravel bar. The estimated maximum depth of the boring holes at these two locations is approximately 300-feet with a hole width of approximately 6-inches, totaling a temporary impact of approximately 150 square feet (0.003 acres) for each boring hole.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is for geotechnical data collection that will be used for a pending Eel River Bridge Project. There would be no significant adverse impact on endangered, threatened, or rare species or their habitat pursuant to §15065. There are no hazardous materials at or around the project site that may be disturbed or removed. The project will not result in impacts that are significant when viewed in connection with the effects of past projects, the effects of other current projects, and the effects of probable future projects.
