Document Description
The Project purpose is to conduct stream bank repairs needed for bank stabilization along the Kern River, located within Riverside Park in Kernville, California. Spring 2023 flooding caused damage to park infrastructure including eroding the Kern River bank along a section of the park. The Permittee proposes bank stabilization improvements along approximately 1,000 linear feet of the Kern River utilizing Class VI rock slope protection (RSP) consisting of 21-inch average diameter stone placed over Class 8 filter fabric per California Department of Transportation specifications. The Project will require hauling approximately 1,000 cubic yards of RSP using standard construction equipment, with staging in developed park areas accessed via Kern River Drive. The RSP installation is designed to occur on the existing footprint of RSP and along areas of the river where the original RSP was washed away during the 2023 flood flows.
