Document Description
The NRCS is conducting soil survey mapping along the perimeter of the Salton Sea on exposed playa, and shallow submerged areas that are projected to be exposed in the future. This work will support land managers in restoring wetlands and controlling fugitive dust emissions on the playa. Soil profiles at Salton Sea SRA will be documented at Salton Sea SRA in four locations. Soil material will be excavated using a shovel and 3.25-inch diameter hand turned soil bucket auger, with soil material placed on a tarp. The surface area of hand dug soil descriptions are approximately 18 inches by 18 inches to a depth of 50 to 100 cm or a practical depth. Subsoil material is observed using a hand turned soil bucket auger to a depth of 150 to 200 cm. Small samples may be collected. The site will be accessed by foot and backfilled following sampling.
