Other Location Info
The project locations are in the city of Long Beach. The Marina Pumping Plant No. 2 (plant) is located at 6268 East Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), adjacent to the Los Cerritos channel in the northwest corner of the Marina Pacifica Village Mall parking lot. The plant can pump wastewater through one of two force mains, Force Main No. 1 (FM1), and Force Main No. 2 (FM2), that run underneath the Alamitos Bay Bridge (suspended) and discharge to break-over manholes located on the northern side of the Los Cerritos Channel near the north abutment of the Alamitos Bay Bridge. The Districts currently only operates FM2 while FM1 is designated as an out-of service redundant force main. Both existing force mains are nearing a 50-year service life, and Districts’ inspections have confirmed that there is significant corrosion of the existing force main piping material in various locations. The existing force mains leave the plant running easterly, connecting to existing manhole (MH) 03-521 and then run northerly under the existing Alamitos Bay Bridge in PCH, owned by Caltrans; they then connect to MH 03-520 and run westerly, discharging into MH 03-519. This project will rehabilitate FM2 with cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) and replace FM1 with a new 12-inch HDPE pipe inside an 18-inch steel casing, running in a new location east of the existing alignment to avoid other existing utilities that run under the bridge.
