Document Description
Project will selectively thin approximately 90 acres of natural habitat within McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park to aid in protecting park campgrounds and facilities from potential wildfires in the area. In the following three (3) areas, work will be as follows: At the northern access road to Pioneer Cemetery, centering on the road, cut a 300-ft long fuel break strip from Lake Britton to Pioneer Campground. This will enhance the road’s ingress/egress capabilities and establish this road as a viable secondary escape route. The fuel break will continue along a portion of a service road that forks east and connects the campground to Highway 89. This work will encompass approx. 34 acres. Around the eastern boundary of Pioneer Campground, clear a 400-ft strip to help suppress fire activity that may impact the campground and its facilities. This work will encompass approx. 23 acres. At the park entrance and in the service yard area, clear and/or reduce vegetation around the entrance kiosk, day use facilities, visitor center, concession structures, park residences, and around the service yard. Clearing in this area will suppress fire activity that could result from Highway 89 activities as well as improve the ingress/egress capabilities of this area and improve its capabilities as the primary escape route. This work will encompass approx. 33 acres.
