Town of Mendocino Public Trash Receptacle Replacement Project

The County of Mendocino proposes to replace twenty-three (23) existing public-use trash receptacles located primarily within commercial areas of the Town of Mendocino. Two (2) existing trash receptacles located in outlying areas have been determined to be poorly sited and would be removed and not replaced as part of the project. The replacement trash receptacles would be installed in the same general locations as the receptacles they replace and would be of similar size and capacity, serving the same public function. The project would not expand service levels, capacity, or the geographic area served by public trash collection facilities. The new receptacles would incorporate an improved design intended to reduce access by wildlife, minimize trash dispersal, and discourage non-designated use. The appearance and design of the replacement trash receptacles have previously been reviewed and approved by the Mendocino Historic Review Board and were determined to be compatible with the historic character of the Town's commercial areas. Installation may require minor repair or replacement of existing concrete pads at previously disturbed locations. The project would not affect coastal resources, public access, or scenic views.
