Document Description
CAL FIRE would provide funding to the California Local Conservation Corps Foundation to support training and job placement in the forestry and fire workforces for local conservation corps, intended to advance career development and increase diversity in California’s forestry and fire workforce. Training courses will include both manual and mechanical treatment activities. These activities have been evaluated by the Sequoia National Monument Plan Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) and associated Record of Decision, signed August 2012; NEPA Recreation Sites Hazard Tree Mitigation Project Categorical Exclusion, 36 CFR 220.6(d)(5) (File Code 1950/2350), and may be conducted on up to 6 acres within Coy Flat Campground. Treatments resultant of training activities will reduce wildfire risks to local resources and community members, promote native plant and wildlife species, and improve forest resiliency.

CEQA does not apply to fuel reduction, reforestation, & habitat restoration projects undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the NEPA, if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed in its entirety under the Giant Sequoia National Monument Plan FEIS and associated Categorical Exclusion, signed July 26, 2016.
