Document Description
The Lake County Climate Adaptation Plan (CAP) provides a comprehensive, countywide framework to reduce climate related risk and builds long-term resilience for Lake County communities, infrastructure, ecosystems, and the local economy. The CAP addresses increasing wildfire risk, extreme heat, drought, flooding, degraded air quality and other climate driven hazards that affect residents and are projected to intensify in the coming decades. The CAP was developed in collaboration with the City of Clearlake and City of Lakeport through the Planning for an Equitable Climate Safe Lake Project, funded by the California Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation through the Adaptation Planning Grant Program. The intention of the CAP is to serve as a framework, guiding future policy development, grant applications, capital improvement, and interagency coordination. The Climate Adaptation Plan key components include: Identifying climate hazards and projected impacts specific to Lake County, the City of Clearlake, and the City of Lakeport; Prioritizing vulnerable populations and critical community assets; Establishing resiliency strategies and action organized by the Pillars of Landscape Resilience; Emphasizing equity, Tribal collaboration, and integration of traditional ecological knowledge; and Providing implementation framework that aligns with existing County and City plans.
