Document Description
The project proposes improvements to the ramada area of San Juan Bautista State Historic Park to improve?interpretative?space for park programming, school tours,?park visitor tours,?and?special events. The proposed project will include: reroofing the existing ramada, a new ramada expansion, removal of the water fountain located on the north side of the current ramada, and improving pathways from 2nd Street between the Castro Breen Adobe and the Plaza Hotel to the ramada area. State Parks staff will:
Use a skid steer and 47-inch drum roller to spread and compact 75 tons of decomposed granite on top of the existing grade to minimize?subsurface?ground disturbance;
Use equipment and hand tools to remove the water fountain on the north side of the existing ramada; and
Use heavy machinery to level the courtyard from behind the hotel and Castro Breen;
Excavate to pour concrete footings in an area no larger than 25-ft x 35-feet;
Use hand tools to attach six (6) structural redwood-clad posts to the concrete footings, approximately 8-inches below grade;
Use hand tools to remove the roof of the existing ramada;
Use hand tools to install new roofs of rough sawn plywood (sawn side?down) on?top of 2-in x 4-in skip sheathing, and install Class “B” fire retardant treated cedar shake roofing on the existing ramada and new ramada expansion;
Paint the undersides of the plywood sheathing on each structure to simulate weathered cedar shakes;
