Document Description
CAL FIRE would provide funding to the Tuolumne Fire Safe Council to implement mastication and hand thinning on the Stanislaus National Forest over 4 acres, consistent with the NEPA decision listed below. The purpose of this project is to mitigate hazard trees in striking distance of key infrastructure, including, but not limited to evacuation routes, fuelbreaks, powerlines, houses and other structures.

The California Environmental Quality Act does not apply to prescribed fire, thinning, or fuel reduction projects undertaken on federal lands to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. All work is coordinated with the Stanislaus National Forest and is included in Red Tsunami Hazard Tree NEPA decision signed 2/24/2017.
