Project consists of defensible space fuels reduction maintenance surrounding critical park infrastructure, specifically the built structures of the Ranger Station and the historic Cooper Barn complex, as well as primary ingress/egress access roads adjacent to and leading to the same. A total of ~10 acres would be maintained under the project including ~6 acres of defensible space treatments around structures and ~4 acres of roadside fuel buffer treatments.

Reasons for Exemption
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), (California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15300 et seq.) provides for 33 classes of categorical exemption from CEQA, including Class 4, section (i), which states that fuels management activities within 30 feet of structures to reduce the volume of flammable vegetation, provided that the activities will not result in the taking of endangered, rare, or threatened plant or animal species or significant erosion and sedimentation of surface waters. This exemption shall apply to fuel management activities within 100 feet of a structure if the public agency having fire protection responsibility for the area has determined that the 100 feet of fuel clearance is required due to extra hazardous fire conditions.
