Document Description
Reclamation District 2068 is proposing to conduct a total of maximum 25 geotechnical explorations to a maximum depth of 60 feet that will involve drilling borings and pushing Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs) through the levee crown to evaluate stability and seepage at three locations along Shag Slough. The proposed explorations will occur between Levee Mile (LM) 3.2 and LM 5.5, spaced approximately 500 feet apart. The geotechnical investigation will collect material properties and soil samples for laboratory analysis. The investigations will adhere to federal, state, and local engineering and environmental conditions and other criteria, per the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) standards, and Office of Safety and Occupational Health standards.

The Board has determined that the project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 6, Information Collection categorical exemption (CEQA California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15306), because the activity consists of basic data collection, research, experimental management, and resource evaluation activities which do not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource. These may be strictly for information gathering purposes, or as part of a study leading to an action which a public agency has not yet approved, adopted, or funded. Further, none of the exceptions to the exemption in CEQA California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15300.2 apply.
