Document Description
Caltrans proposes repairing a damaged section of an existing gabion basket retaining wall on southbound Highway 1 at post mile (PM) 22.45. The corner of the gabion basket retaining wall was damaged by a car that drove off the roadway. The top two rows of the wall were damaged – about 18 feet in length (one and a half baskets) on the top row and about 12 feet in length (one basket) on the second row. The damaged baskets will be removed, and the rock inside will be set aside to be reused in the new baskets. New gabion baskets of the same size will then be installed. Excavation under the roadway will be required in order to embed the baskets. Geogrid will then be installed on top of the basket and up under the roadway to hold it in place. Vegetation that matches the existing conditions will be placed on top of the geogrid.
