Caltrans approves the encroachment permit for Environmental Restoration Group, LLC, which proposes installing a 6-inch-high sheet-metal barrier in the 101 Fwy culvert at Las Virgenes Creek to prevent invasive nonnative crayfish from accessing the habitat of federally listed CA red-legged frogs. The temporary barrier will be installed in dry weather, removed prior to rainstorms, and completely removed before December 31. This is a US Fish and Wildlife Project to protect existing CA red-legged frogs and promote their continued population expansion into historic waters. The project is in the City of Calabasas, County of Los Angeles, on Fwy 101 at postmile (PM) 31.36. There are no excavations. No public utilities will be relocated, and no new right-of-way will be acquired for the project.
