Reasons for Exemption
The project entails the repair, maintenance, minor alteration, and negligible expansion of existing public structures and/or mechanical equipment in that it includes:
• Installation or replacement of traffic signal controls and pavement markings;
• Maintenance or modernization of signal systems, including loop replacement, pedestrian countdown heads, and safety lighting;
• Upgrading or relocating existing traffic signal and service cabinets;
• Replacement of utility systems and facilities where there is no expansion of capacity;
• Installation of small new equipment or facilities, such as individual signal components, in small structures or existing settings.
Project improvements will occur within the existing public right of way and will not change the overall facility use. The improvements will not affect vehicular use of the roadway, including public transit service. Improvements will only improve traffic signal coordination and visibility.
