Document Description
The project involves implementation of hazardous fuels reduction and vegetation management on approximately 27 acres of Tribal and non-Tribal lands surrounding the Fort Bidwell Electrical Substation. Activities include manual and mechanical thinning, mastication, chipping, and limited pile burning to reduce hazardous vegetative fuels, improve defensible space, and enhance wildfire resilience. No grading, excavation, or new construction is proposed. All work will be conducted using best management practices to prevent erosion and avoid impacts to biological, cultural, or water resources.

The project qualifies for a Categorical Exemption under CEQA Guidelines Section 15304, Class 4 – Minor Alterations to Land, which applies to minor alterations in the condition of land and vegetation that do not involve the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees. The project consists of limited vegetation management and fuels reduction activities designed to reduce wildfire risk and improve public safety. Activities will not result in the taking of endangered, rare, or threatened species; will not cause erosion, sedimentation, or conversion of forestland or farmland; and will not create significant environmental effects. The project does not trigger any exceptions under CEQA Guidelines Section 15300.2.
