Document Description
Amelia Mayberry Park (Mayberry Park) is a 14-acre park located at 13201 East Meyer Road in the unincorporated community of South Whittier. According to the 2016 Parks Needs Assessment (PNA), the proposed Project is located in a study area with a moderate park need. Mayberry Park also serves neighboring communities experiencing moderate to high park need in the Gateway Study Area established by the 2022 PNA+. Mayberry Park features· a variety of outdoor recreation and sports amenities, a large play area with equipment for children 2 to 12 years old, a gymnasium, and community center, where recreation and community services are provided. The play area is very well used and has not been refurbished since 2003. The amenities, including play equipment, safety surfacing, and seating, have outlived their useful lives. In Fall 2024, LA County Parks conducted an online community survey and received feedback from the community identifying priorities for the play area. Responses to the survey are informing the design of the proposed Project which will be posted on-site for the public prior to start of construction. The proposed Project scope includes replacing the existing playground equipment, shade canopies, and safety surfacing; renovating pathways and seating; and making related renovations.
