Document Description
The Shasta County Department of Public Works (County) proposes to replace the existing bridge (No.06C-0220) on Parkville Road over Ash Creek and construct the necessary roadway approach improvement. The Parkville Road bridge is functionally obsolete and presents a public safety hazard with insufficient width for current traffic volumes, a timber railing that does not meet current safety standards, and lack of approach guardrails. The County proposes to create a new bridge crossing slightly downstream of the existing bridge, including construction of new roadway approaches. The County has nominated this bridge for replacement under the federal-aid Highway Bridge Program administered by the FHWA through the Caltrans Local Assistance program. The new bridge would be a single-span, 102-foot-long by 27.5-foot-wide, reinforced concrete CIP post-tensioned box girder. The new structure would be installed on a new alignment to the south of the existing structure. The County also plans to realign the roadway approaches on both sides of the bridge and widen the approaches from 16 to 22 feet to align with the new bridge. Approximately 300 feet of approach road work on each side of the bridge would be required to tie into the existing alignment. Parkville Road would remain open to traffic during construction. The existing bridge and roadway would remain open for use as a temporary detour and would be removed once the new bridge and roadway open to traffic.
