Document Description
The Project purpose is to temporarily repair eroded areas of the Bay Farm Island north shore from further erosion and undermining of the bike/pedestrian pathway along San Leandro Bay (Bay) in the City of Alameda (Lat. 37.748056; Long. -122.246667). About 0.04 miles of the shoreline adjacent to the San Francisco Bay Trail (Trail) were eroded in storms during the 2024/2025 winter season. The Trail in this location consists of a ten-foot-wide paved asphalt path for bikers and pedestrians. The segment extends from the SR 61 bridge, through Shoreline Park, to the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal and beyond. Temporary stabilization is needed to prevent further destabilization and damage to the Trail shoreline and protect public safety during the winter season beginning in 2025/2026. The Permittee is developing a shoreline levee design as part of the Bay Farm Island Adaptation Project that will provide near-term stabilization for the Project reach of the Trail shoreline. The Project will be implemented during each winter storm season until the shoreline levee is permitted and constructed. The Project will install approximately 200 linear feet (LF) of 24" tall and 34" wide Super Tiger Dams (Dams) at three locations along the Trail. The Dams will be filled with water from the adjacent Bay and held in place with earthen anchors per the manufacturer specifications. At the end of each winter storm season, the Dams will be emptied, cleaned and stored off site and installed the following year. The Project will be implemented annually between winter and spring beginning in 2025.
