Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 1, Section 15301 (c)
Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project involves the enhancement of an existing side-street stop-controlled intersection by installing a new traffic signal system. The project would include an upgraded traffic signal, enhanced sidewalk accessibility features, and the addition of high-visibility crosswalks, signage, striping, and pavement markings. Construction activities will incorporate avoidance and minimization measures to avoid disturbance to migratory birds protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act in the work area prior to construction. The project will not result in impacts to hazardous materials or cultural resources, and all work will occur within previously disturbed or managed areas, with the designated staging area used solely for equipment storage and no ground disturbance. The project is located on a roadway eligible for scenic highway designation; however, the intersection is commercialized, and the signals would not significantly interfere with views of Lake Tahoe. Therefore, the project will not result in any adverse effects, and there are no exceptions to the exemptions.
