Document Description
STORM DRAIN IMPROVEMENTS AND RADII REALIGNMENT
Project Description
Project Location:
Intersection of South Ash Street and South Laurel Street: between east 7th Street and 8th Street; Intersection of Baker Road and Beecher Road: southwest corner. See attached Vicinity Maps.
Project Justification:
The Ash Street and Laurel Street locations have periodic flooding alongside the edge of pavement, ultimately affecting the residents’ driveways. We will regrade the existing roadside ditch/swale at these two locations, to allow the water to shed to the existing drainage inlets to the north.
The southwest corner of the intersection at Baker Road and Beecher Road has accumulated excessive asphalt outside of the County right of way. We will remove the excess asphalt and realign the roadway edge of pavement. We will put back the edge of pavement and reestablish the roadway shoulder.
Scope of Work:
The project will consist of:
1. Regrading roadside ditch to drain to the north at 2181 Ash Street.
2. Removing broken driveway pipe at 2138 Laurel Street and regrading roadside ditch to drain to the north.
3. Removing excess concrete asphalt at the southwest corner of Baker Road and Beecher Road and reestablishing the shoulder.
Environmental Setting:
In these portions of the San Joaquin County, land usage varies from residential to agricultural.
There are many large trees adjacent to the project area. Nesting and migratory birds, protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, may nest within these trees. Furthermore, the Swainson’s Hawk, a raptor species of concern within the State of California and listed as threatened may nest adjacent to or within the project area. A pre-construction survey for nesting Swainson’s Hawks and other migratory birds is recommended if construction is scheduled to occur from February 15th to September 1st.
Beneficiaries:
The public will see increased safety and fewer hazards with these drainage repairs and realignment. Overall, there will be reduced maintenance concerns and more reliability within the project areas.
