Document Description
The Project involves the demolition of the existing 4,145-square-foot fire station and adjoining community garden, and the construction of a 12,585-square-foot (gross) new fire station. The fire station would include a separate 312-square-foot trash enclosure, a 180 square-foot earthquake storage enclosure, a 68-square-foot sand storage, and a 54-square-foot hose drying tower. This new fire station would support the daily operation of the OFD in its existing Station 2 location to continue to serve the nearby neighborhoods, upgrading the facility to a larger, more modern space to better suit the OFD's needs. The fire station would include a single-story apparatus bay designed to accommodate two fire engines and one ladder truck. Adjacent to the large apparatus area are support spaces like turnouts where the firefighters would store firefighting equipment, a decontamination (decon) room where they would clean their gear and themselves, a shop space for equipment cleaning and repair of equipment and tools, an EMS storage room for required medical supplies, a restroom, and miscellaneous utility rooms that would support the fire station.
The building would also provide living quarters to accommodate up to 10 fire personnel per shift, which would include separate bunk rooms, restrooms, a kitchen, laundry facilities, dining room, day room (living room), an outdoor staff patio, and a fitness room. In addition, an open office space would be included to provide workspaces for fire personnel. The majority of the remainder of the Project Site would be paved to provide parking and circulation, and would include a fueling station for the fire apparatus, earthquake storage building, hose drying tower, and emergency generator located north of the fire station building. A trash enclosure would be provided near the northeastern corner of the Project Site. Landscape would be provided around the perimeter of the site, adjacent to Cloyne Street and East Pleasant Valley Road. The fire station would have a maximum height of 29 feet and 8 inches; and would be designed to include a hose drying tower with a maximum height of 31 feet.
