Document Description
SamTrans seeks to widen approximately 500 linear feet of the 8-foot-wide Bay Trail within the North Base, by extending the width of the trail 3- to 4-feet inland
with stabilized decomposed granite. This decomposed granite paving would be impervious. The bay-ward side of the 500-foot section of the trail to be widened
will be marked with striping to deter users from moving towards eroded shoreline areas. The existing exercise par course stations will be repaired and their
finish will be restored. The existing picnic tables and benches will be resurfaced and repaired. Weeds and dead or dying plant material will be cleared.

Pursuant to Section 15301 of the CEQA Guidelines, Class 1 projects that "consist of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public and private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment or topographical features involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency's determination" are categorically exempt from
CEQA. Pursuant to Section 15301(c), such projects may include "existing highways and streets, sidewalks, gutters, bicycle and pedestrian trails, and similar facilities (this includes road grading for the purpose of public safety)." The SamTrans North Base Bay Trail Realignment is consistent with this description.
