Document Description
CAL FIRE is providing funding to the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council to restore up to 637 acres through mechanical and manual fuels reduction and biomass removal forest health treatment activities. These treatments will occur in private parcels, positions within the Georgetown District of the Eldorado National Forest and sections within the BLM Motherload District near Kelsey-Garden Valley will reduce wildfire risks to local resources and community members, promote ecosystem diversity and resilience, reduce fuels and promote ecosystem diversity and resilience, control invasive species, reduce fuel hazard, improve wildlife habitat, increase water yield, and enhance watersheds

Reasons for Exemption
CEQA does not apply to fuel reduction, reforestation, & habitat restoration projects undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the NEPA, if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed under the (1) Georgetown Resource Conservation District Fuels Reduction Project NEPA EA & DN-FONSI, signed April 8, 2022, (2) Hazard Removal and Vegetation Management Project NEPA EA & DN-FONSI, signed February 15, 2019, and (3) Kelsey Wildfire Resilience Project NEPA EA & DN-FONSI, signed April 25, 2022. NEPA coverage for this project is 831 acres, with initial treatments at 377 acres.
