Document Description
The El Dorado Irrigation District (District) proposes to replace a segment of 24-inch gravity sewer line, which was found to have a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) power pole ground rod inserted through it. Further inspection also revealed that PG&E installed a power pole immediately over this deeply-buried line, causing additional damage adjacent to the area pierced by the ground rod. This section of pipeline is now vulnerable to structural failure, at risk of a sanitary sewer spill, and in need of immediate replacement. The pipeline segment is located within an existing utility easement along Pleasant Valley Road / Highway 49 near Patterson Drive in the community of Diamond Springs. The project will replace approximately 20 feet of damaged gravity sewer line. Work activities will include excavation of subgrade soil, removal of damaged sewer line segment, placement of aggregate base at the bottom of the trench, installation of new gravity sewer line, backfilling base above the pipe, and restoring to pre-construction grade. A temporary bypass will be installed in order to maintain sewer service during the sewer line replacement. Bypass pumping will be performed using a trailer mounted generator and pump and will be required up to 24 hours a day for the duration of the repair, which is expected to take approximately 1-2 weeks to complete. Equipment that will be used will include an excavator, loader, backhoe, mini-excavator, semi-trucks, and trailer mounted generator and bypass pumping equipment. Project activities will not impact public sewer services. Any construction debris that is generated as a result of the sewer line replacement will be removed from the area and will be disposed of in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. All areas where ground disturbance occurs will be stabilized using appropriate best management practices for erosion control.
