Document Description
Implement forest thinning, chipping, and biomass removal along Lower Cold Stream Road at Donner Memorial State Park to reduce hazardous fuels, improve defensible space, protect life and property, promote large tree resilience, increase vegetative and structural diversity, and create a mosaic of forest openings. Work will:
• Use chainsaws, chippers, and disposal trucks to thin 5 acres of forest land by targeting small diameter conifers, primarily those less than 14-in. diameter at breast height (DBH);
• Remove trees exhibiting poor crown position, poor form, disease, or insect infestation, and all dead trees, regardless of size;
• Create up to 100-ft of defensible space around structures; and
• Chip material roadside on Lower Cold Stream Road, haul chips off-site to local wood disposal yard, and remove logs suitable for firewood.
