Document Description
The Calexico West Land Port of Entry Expansion and Reconfiguration Project, managed by the US General Services Administration (GSA), is entering its final phase. This phase entails the construction of a Temporary Pedestrian Facility, demolition of the existing Pedestrian Processing Facility, and construction of a new Pedestrian Processing Facility. Initial construction work has commenced, with Hensel Phelps serving as the general contractor. To support construction of the project, the City of Calexico has executed a Land Lease Agreement with Hensel Phelps for use of two City-owned sites proximate to the Temporary Pedestrian Facility and new permanent Pedestrian Processing Facility: Border Friendship Park at E. 1st Street and Paulin Avenue, and the East Parking Lot at 352 E. 1st Street, adjacent to the former Valley Orthopedic Clinic, which was damaged in a structural fire. The lease would facilitate temporary use of the land for construction laydown, parking for Customs & Border Protection (CBP officials), and contractor operations through March 2029. The lease authorizes the demolition of the former Valley Orthopedic Clinic building and removal of flatwork/landscape materials at Border Friendship Park.
