Document Description
This project will structurally repair and restore the Salton Sea State Park entrance sign located at 100-225 State Park Road Mecca, California 92254 and the entrance sign to Mecca Beach. The signs were built between 1955 and 1965, with new lettering placed in 1963 following the classification of the unit as a State Recreation Area. Today, the entrance sign at the Headquarters has deteriorated and is close to collapsing. The sign at Mecca Beach is also deteriorating, although it is not in danger of collapse. As these signs are contributing elements to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligible district of historic buildings at the Salton Sea, it is imperative to properly maintain these structures into the future. of disrepair, and require maintenance. For each sign, they will be dismantled using a mix of hand removal and heavy equipment (for the posts). Pieces that may be reused will be stored and treated, if necessary, while pieces that are too deteriorated will be disposed of. Signs will be reconstructed with in kind materials. The repair footprint for each sign is approximately 0.2 acres for heavy equipment movement, and reconstructed signs will require up to three holes each (maximum 4' diameter x 4.5' deep) with concrete footing.
