Document Description
The purpose of this project is to extend the existing fence lines and install additional fencing along SC251 to protect sensitive park resources and prevent further unauthorized off-highway vehicle (OHV) activity in designated non-riding areas of Onyx SVRA. This area, located within Management Unit 5 (MU-5), and the project will involve the installation of wooden peeler posts and T-posts with smooth wire fencing along the designated campsite areas to prevent further encroachment. To install the wooden posts, an 8-inch diameter hole will be drilled approximately 2-3 feed deep using a handheld mechanized auger. The excavated material will be returned to backfill the holes. The fencing is designed to limit unauthorized user created OHV access, thereby reducing the impact on the surrounding vegetation and wildlife habitat, particularly in areas of creosote and bursage scrub that are critical to local species protection. This project aims to restore the integrity of these habitats by curbing unauthorized OHV trail use and encouraging responsible OHV trail use.
