Document Description
As part of the California Stream Gage Improvement Program, the California Department of Water Resources has executed a contract with the Merced Irrigation District to reactivate one stream gage at Merced Falls Forebay (37.523208, -120.320409) and upgrade three existing stream gages located on Miles Creek at Cunningham Road (37.320942, -120.251846), Bear Creek at the Le Grand Canal (37.332843, -120.320409), and Bear Creek at the Fairfield Canal (37.314589, -120.396238). The proposed work involves minor alterations to the existing stations, including installation of new data loggers, telemetry equipment, a wire weight gage, and a staff gage.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed stream gage reactivation and upgrades consist of minor alterations to existing facilities and does not involve the expansion of the existing use. The proposed reactivation and upgrades will improve California's stream gage network by monitoring hydrologic conditions and providing real-time data to the public. Proposed activities qualify for categorical exemptions 15301 (Existing Facilities), 15302 (Replacement or Reconstruction), and 15306 (Information Collection). Proposed activities will take place within previously disturbed areas with a minimal footprint and will not result in a significant impact to the environment and none of the exceptions described in CEQA Guidelines Section 15300.2 apply.
