Document Description
The City of Nevada City is a historic city with much of its water distribution systems installed as early as the 1850s. The City’s 2017 Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Audit Report provided a comprehensive condition assessment of the water infrastructure, which includes 21 miles of water distribution pipes. This condition assessment included priority ranking of projects based on condition and criticality. Priority Ranking 1 is Dire Condition and Critically Needed. Approximately 1/3 of all pipelines are between 100 years and 140 years in age so rehabilitation or replacement of these pipelines received a Priority Ranking 1. The City is requesting planning funds to complete the necessary preparation work to apply for a construction loan. These funds will allow us to hire consultants to flesh out environmental documentation and a full engineering report, which includes a consolidation analysis, alternative analysis, detailed plans, specifications and cost estimates, and climate change analysis. The project would help Nevada City, being a small community, the opportunity to maintain essential drinking water service for its residents by rehabilitating infrastructure that is in critical need of rehabilitation.
