Document Description
The project proposes the removal of two 12-foot diameter by approximately 320 linear-foot long culverts and channel-spanning fill material to remediate the risk of the crossing completely failing. The crossing is an abandoned railroad grade that was used for construction of Shasta Dam. The culverts failed following the 2018 Carr Fire and subsequent major winter storms beginning in January 2019 which resulted in increased run-off intensity and severe degradation of the crossing. The project includes the restoration of natural stream conditions at the site, including recontouring stream elevations and redistribution of existing boulder materials as needed to improve hydraulic function through the excavated reach.
