Document Description
Caltrans is proposing a ramp pavement rehabilitation project on the auxiliary lane of northbound (NB) I-5 in the City of Chula Vista within the County of San Diego at PM 4.9. The auxiliary lane spans from the Palm Avenue on-ramp to the Main Street off-ramp. The proposed work involves removing 0.2 feet of existing asphalt and replacing it with 0.2 feet of rubberized asphalt via cold planing and utilizing Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt-gap Graded (RHMA-G) flexible pavement. The existing dikes along the project’s length will be replaced with Types A, C, D, E, and F depending on location. The entirety of the proposed work is anticipated to remain within the existing pavement. No staging or vegetation removal is required.

The types of “existing facilities” itemized below are not intended to be all-inclusive of the types of projects which might fall within Class 1. The key consideration is whether the project involves negligible or no expansion of use. (C) is for existing highways and streets, sidewalks, gutters, bicycle and pedestrian trails, and similar facilities (this includes road grading for the purpose of public safety), and other alterations such as the addition of bicycle facilities, including but not limited to bicycle parking, bicycle-share facilities and bicycle lanes, transit improvements such as bus lanes, pedestrian crossings, street trees, and other similar alterations that do not create additional automobile lanes).
