Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project was reviewed for potential exemptions and was determined to satisfy the standards of Class 8 Categorical Exemption as specified within Section 15308 of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines because it consists of actions taken by regulatory agencies, as authorized by state or local ordinance, to assure the maintenance, restauration, enhancement, or protection of the environment where the regulatory process involves procedures for protection of the environment. Designating the property as a landmark will help preserve the historic resource and allow for future restoration. Therefore, the city of Whittier has determined that the project will not have a significant effect on the environment, and a Notice of Exemption will be filed pursuant to Section 15308, Class 8 (Actions by Regulatory Agencies for Protection of the Environment) of the CEQA Guidelines.
